Eisenhower, but he also read it off the Internet, and you know what Abraham Lincoln says about Internet quotes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/sannekurz.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/09\/quote-on-internet-by-abraham-lincoln.jpg?w=600\" alt=\"\" width=\"275\" height=\"385\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But he\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s right, and this holds true in the classroom.\u00c2\u00a0 You plan by thinking about pedagogy, your students\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 learning abilities and personalities, and your own personal teaching philosophy.\u00c2\u00a0 You plan your lesson and unit plans using learning goals and outcomes, teaching strategies, and assessments.\u00c2\u00a0 Anyone who has walked into a classroom as a substitute teacher, or thought that they could teach a lesson well without writing anything in their day book, must know that planning is necessary.\u00c2\u00a0 However, sometimes the students aren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t at the point where they are ready to hear what you want to teach, and you have to quickly adapt and meet them at their level of knowledge.\u00c2\u00a0 Or the students are preoccupied with another school event or problem, and will have trouble focusing on your lesson. Or there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s an unexpected fire drill, or an unscheduled assembly, or a scheduled assembly that you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve forgotten about, or your principal needs to speak to you, or there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a parent on the phone, or your teaching partner\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s lesson has run long.\u00c2\u00a0 At this point all the plans might have to be revised or simply thrown out the window.\u00c2\u00a0 Every teacher must also get used to this lesson flexibility throughout the course of his or her teaching day.\u00c2\u00a0 These contradictory statements hold truth not just in teaching, but in many aspects of life.\u00c2\u00a0 Whether or not it was actually stated by Eisenhower, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a good quotation to remember.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My husband told me something this week: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Plans are useless.\u00c2\u00a0 Planning is essential\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.\u00c2\u00a0 He says it&#8217;s a quotation from Dwight D.
